CANCER TREATMENTS

Cancer Treatments
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to the survey of the World Health organization, out of the 58 million deaths that occurred last year, about 7.6 million deaths were caused due to cancer.
Treatment given to the cancer patient is dependent on a number of factors such as - type, location and size of the cancer. It also depends on the current health of the patient. The treatments are designed to kill the cancer cells or to remove it.
Based on the goal and mode of action, treatment of cancer is divided into several categories such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and many more. Combination of different types of treatment is used sequentially or simultaneously. Following section describes the most common forms of treatment that are used for the cancer treatment.
Cancer Treatments:-
Surgery:- Surgery is the first treatment for many solid tumors. In the case of early detection of cancer, surgery may be sufficient to cure the patient by removing all the cancerous cells from the body.
For those cancer patients whose cancer is not treatable, palliative surgery can be performed to relieve the pain, which is caused due to the cancer. Palliative surgery is not performed to treat or cure the cancer. It is performed only to lessen the discomforts of the patient.
Radiation Therapy:- The main goal of radiation therapy is to kill the cancer cells. It is also called as radiotherapy.
Chemotherapy:- Chemotherapy involves wide array of drugs to kill the cancer cells. Chemotherapy works successfully by damaging the dividing cells and preventing their further reproduction. Just like surgery, chemotherapy affects the entire body, and not just the specific cancerous cells. Therefore, chemotherapy can cause side effects like hair loss and stomach upset.
Hormonal treatments:- Hormonal treatment is designed to prevent the cancer cells from growing and by preventing the cells from receiving substance which is necessary for their growth and division.
Biological Response Modifiers:- This treatment involves the use of natural occurring normal proteins in the body. This protein is used to stimulate the body in order to fight against the cancer.
Targeted Therapy:- This class of drug treatment is new for the cancer treatment. This works by targeting the specific proteins. With the use of this process, one can prevent the growth and division of cancer cell.
Antibodies:- This type of treatment involves the use of antibodies to target the cancer cells. Antibodies are the natural occurring proteins in the body. These antibodies are manufactured to be used as a drug for the treatment of cancer.
Vaccines:- The main purpose of the cancer vaccine is to stimulate the body to fight against the cancer. The treatment aims to increase the response of the body against the cancerous cells.
However, it is recommended to consult your doctor even if you find a minor symptoms or sign of any disease or cancer. Do consult your doctor, an effective treatment at an early stage of cancer will aid in eradicating that disease from your body.
