Male Breast Cancer Symptoms
 Generally, after hearing the name of breast cancer people often relate the cancer to women. However, does the cancer develop only in female, is it so? No way, it also develops in males as well but male breast cancer is not that common. As such, many of the men do not think of breast cancer and its symptoms because of its rare occurrence of illness.
Many of the people get surprised to learn that men can also develop breast cancer, just like women. Therefore, the idea of male breast cancer (MBC) symptoms may seem like a strange one!
According to the latest survey, in the US it has affected only 2000 men. The occurrence of male breast cancer is very rare, but still it is better to be aware of it. Learning or knowing the signs and symptoms of the male breast cancer will aid you for the early detection and treatment of cancer.
Many men avoid reporting the early symptoms of breast cancer and this makes them more likely to develop the cancer and see their doctor only at the advanced stage of cancer. Obviously, advanced stage of cancer will have a greater risk of spreading it to other parts of body. At the end stage, cancer would have developed, so much that it would become too difficult to cure it.
Males have breast tissues behind their nipple but they remain non- functional. In normal cases, the male’s testes produce the testosterones. Male testes suppress the growth of the breast tissues and the milk glands but still some males develop the structure with the help of small amount of fat and connective tissues. In men, these uncontrolled growths of breast tissues result in breast cancer. Males between the ages of 65-75 years are more likely to suffer from breast cancer.
 Male Breast Cancer Symptoms
Symptoms are the things that you, as a patient have to notice. Like many other cancer and diseases, male breast cancer also have some symptoms, which are common.
Knowing the symptoms of breast cancer may help you in saving your life. The earlier the cancer gets detected or discovered, the more treatment option you have and the better chance of recovery. Following are the symptoms of themale breast cancer.
1. Thickening in the breast
2. Lump is painless
3. Skin dumpling or puckering
4. Development of new retraction or indentation of nipple
5. Changes in the nipple or the breast skin such as scaling or redness
6. Nipple discharge
7. Excessive redness with dryness
It is very important to note that enlargement of both the breast is ‘NOT’ a cancer. The medical term used to describe this condition is ‘gynecomastia’. In some cases, breast can become quite large. Non - cancer related enlargement of the breasts can be caused due to heavy alcohol use, weight gain, medication use.
An early diagnosis for the male breast cancer can make a life saving difference. If you detect any of the persistent changes to your breast, consult your doctor right away.
